iPhone - Connect to Microsoft Exchange

Ben Greiner -

If you use Microsoft Exchange and you have an iPhone, then get the two connected! We've tested this internally and configured this for clients and it works great. Here's what you'll need:

  • iPhone 2.0 software (free update if you don't have it)
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, Service Pack 2, or Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Service Pack 1
The iPhone talks to Exchange using Microsoft's ActiveSync technology. The security policies that are available when using this technology include:
  • Remote wipe (we tested this and it works -- make sure your iPhone is backed up!)
  • Enforce password on device
  • Minimum password length
  • Require alphanumeric password
  • Require complex password
  • Inactivity time in minutes
More information:
If you don't have an Exchange account you can get one for $12.50/month per user. (But don't rush out and do this unless there's a strong business case to be made. We can help you decide, and if you're a Pro Support client we can save you money). Remember, if you're a Pro Support Client and you need help with technology, you can contact us at no additional charge.
