Properly installing an application from a Disk Image (.dmg)

Running applications directly from a Disk Image (.dmg) can be problematic. It's best to following these steps when installing new software from a Disk Image:

  1. Download the trusted .dmg file (some files first have to be "unzipped". If so, double-click the downloaded .zip file to turn it into a .dmg).
  2. Copy the new application from the .dmg file to your Applications folder.
  3. Eject the Disk Image and move it to the trash. (See video example below. Note: There is no sound).
